About the Department

The Department of Physics of T. P. S. College, Patna was established in the year 1960. It began with the B.Sc. Physics (Honours) course and has grown steadily over the years in both academic and infrastructural aspects. At present, the department also offers a postgraduate program in Physics, which was introduced in the academic session 2025. This marks a significant step in the academic development of the department.

The department has an impressive student strength at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, each semester has more than 120 students. The first batch of postgraduate students consists of 28 learners. The department has two well-maintained laboratories equipped with efficient and functional instruments that support effective practical learning for the students. The department also has classrooms with modern teaching facilities like smart board and projector screen, which support ICT-enabled teaching practices and enhance student engagement.

There are four full-time faculty members and one supporting staff in the department. The faculty members are actively involved in teaching, mentoring, and academic development of students. The department promotes a learner-centric environment where emphasis is given to conceptual clarity, practical exposure, and continuous assessment.

The department also fosters a developing research culture. Faculty members are actively engaged in research-oriented work and contribute to knowledge creation in their respective fields. They regularly publish research papers in reputed journals and participate in seminars, workshops, faculty development programs, and refresher courses. These activities help them remain updated with recent advances in physics and incorporate contemporary knowledge into classroom teaching.

Teachers guide students in both theoretical and practical aspects of physics. The academic environment is friendly and supportive.
