Thakur Prasad Singh
About our
Founder
Thakur Prasad Singh was a legendary figure from Barahiya, remembered as one of the most prominent and influential landlords in Bihar. His legacy is defined not just by the vastness of his estate, but by his extraordinary generosity and commitment to social welfare.
He dedicated his life to the service of society, particularly in the fields of education. Believing strongly in the transformative power of education, he worked tirelessly for the upliftment of underprivileged communities.
Following his vision, his wife, Tejwanti Kunwar, played a pivotal role in establishing the Thakur Prasad Singh (TPS) College in Patna, which remains a prestigious institution today.
Through his humanitarian efforts and institutions such as Seva Sadan, he left a lasting legacy of compassion, service, and empowerment for future generations.
History of the College
The founding stone of Thakur Prasad Singh College, Patna (TPS College) was laid in 1960s, by a great philanthropist “Thakur Prasad Singh” with an aim to impart quality education primarily to the destitute of rural areas and to those belonging to the weaker sections of the society.
Its foundation was inspired and supported by eminent leaders of Bihar, including Dr. Sri Krishna Singh, the first Chief Minister of Bihar, and Sri Mahesh Prasad Singh. A significant contribution towards the development of the institution came through the donation of approximately two acres of land by Shri Ratneshwar Prasad Singh and Smt. Tejwanti Kuwar on 6 September 1963.
Initially affiliated with Bihar University, the college later came under the jurisdiction of Magadh University after its establishment in 1962. In 1977, the Government of Bihar accorded the status of a constituent college to T.P.S. College under Magadh University.
Subsequently, following the establishment of Patliputra University in 2018, the college became one of its constituent units of society
Since its inception, TPS College has upheld the legacy of its founders, embracing values such as creativity, critical thinking, personality development, and social integration. The college remains deeply committed to imparting quality education, fostering holistic development, and preparing the next generation to contribute meaningfully
