The Department of Psychology at TPS College, Patna, was established in 1960 with the objective of fostering holistic development and academic excellence in the study of human behavior and mental health. The department offers a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on both theoretical and practical knowledge. It is equipped with a well-maintained laboratory featuring the latest psychological tests and apparatus.
Initially, the department offered teaching and learning only at the undergraduate level; however, it now also provides postgraduate programs. In addition to academic activities, the department actively promotes extracurricular and co-curricular engagement by organizing special lectures, workshops, seminars, and other events.
The department also runs a counseling cell that provides support and guidance to students, teachers, and non-teaching staff of the college.
The Department of Psychology aspires to be a premier center of excellence in psychological education and research. It is committed to nurturing competent professionals who promote mental well-being and possess a deep understanding of the complexities of human behavior, thereby contributing to the creation of a more compassionate and inclusive society.
To establish the department as an advanced Centre for psychology

The Department of Psychology at TPS College, Patna, was established in 1960, carrying forward a distinguished legacy shaped by eminent scholars such as Professor T. M. Sarin and Professor I. C. Thakur. Initially, the Department offered undergraduate programs; however, as the field expanded and demand for advanced education increased, a postgraduate program was introduced in 2025 in accordance with Patliputra University guidelines and directives.
Over the years, the Department has built a strong reputation for academic excellence and has produced numerous accomplished individuals who have made significant contributions across higher education, government services, the private sector, and social service domains. The Department continues to strive toward becoming a center of excellence dedicated to fostering academic rigor and the holistic development of its students.
The ongoing programs are carried out under the CBCS framework, implemented in accordance with NEP 2020 guidelines and the directives of Patliputra University.
