The Department of Economics at T.P.S. College, Patliputra University, Patna, was established in 1960, since the college's inception. The department is an eminent center of higher learning, offering both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs in Economics. It focuses on building a strong foundation in economic theory, applied economics, and quantitative methods, while also developing students’ ability to analyze and respond to contemporary economic issues in a critical and informed manner. The department upholds a strong tradition of academic excellence, fostered through committed teaching and an emphasis on analytical and policy-oriented perspectives.

The department caters to a substantial student base, with approximately 150 students enrolled annually in the Undergraduate programme and around 30 students in the Postgraduate course, reflecting its sustained academic relevance and outreach. Initially functioning as an undergraduate teaching department, it subsequently expanded to offer postgraduate programmes. Over the decades, the department has consistently produced graduates who have distinguished themselves in higher education, competitive examinations, and various professional domains.

The Department of Economics offers a four-year UG course and a two-year PG course under the CBCS framework, implemented in accordance with NEP 2020 guidelines and the directives of Patliputra University.
