The department of Zoology was established with the inception of the college in the year 1960. Presently, the department is running under the headship of Dr. Jyotsna Kumari and is associated with 02 Assistant Professors and one non-teaching staff member.

Now it is a fully fledged department with all major equipment and infrastructure. It has two spacious laboratories of 50×30 feet and 30×20 feet sizes, a spacious staff room and a collection of museum Specimens belonging to non-chordates, chordates and pathology which are classified and displayed in the museum as per their classifications.

The department of Zoology promotes discovery and learning at all levels of biological organizations. Our integrative focus reflects the importance of strong disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approaches and teaching. We strive for excellence and synergy in our coordinated programs of teaching, research and service.

Recognizing essential roles of science and biology in lives of citizens today and tomorrow, we emphasize biological literacy in our teaching and outreach programs for the development of social awareness.

To promote the research, innovation, discovery and broad communication to enhance knowledge about the biology of animals, including their evolution and their environment.

The Department of Zoology was opened in 1960 along with the Department of Botany. The Department is now moderately equipped and has been shifted to the Science Block of the College. It has witnessed very committed and dedicated faculties in the subject who had given chance to the department to provide opportunities in the field of life science.

The department is successfully running the following programmes affiliated to Patliputra University, Patna:

• Undergraduate Programme: B.Sc. Zoology (Honours / Major) under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) as per NEP-2020 guidelines. The course covers major areas such as Non-Chordates, Chordates, Ecology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Evolutionary Biology and Applied Zoology.
• Postgraduate Programme: M.Sc. Zoology (Semester System). The programme includes advanced papers in Invertebrate and Vertebrate Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Endocrinology, Immunology, Animal Behaviour, Environmental Biology, and Dissertation work.

The department also offers Zoology as a Minor / Generic Elective subject for students of other science disciplines.
